The Making of Leaders…WHICH MODEL OF LEADERSHIP?

Rigorous efforts are undertaken in formulating the course contents to fulfil the criteria set by international accreditation systems

UNIVERSITI Tun Abdul Razak’s Razak School of Government (RSOG) is the prototypical school that offers specialised courses related to government service, public policy, and leadership. The first of its kind in Malaysia and emulated by others, UniRazak’s RSOG provides specialised and unique academic programmes designed to meet the demands of the public in terms of knowledgeable human capital that is capable of managing the public service in a challenging global environment.

Towards this end, rigorous efforts are undertaken in formulating the course contents and the teaching-learning methods and strategies to ensure compliance not only to national standards but also to fulfil the criteria set by various international accreditation systems. Graduates of RSOG complete their degree programme with internship stints intended to provide hands-on experience in managing and working in the public sector. Internship programmes are developed in collaboration with public sector agencies and students will register after the completion of all required courses.

Assoc Prof Datuk Mohd Ibrahim Haji Abu Bakar, dean of RSOG says, "I can assure you that the study experience in RSOG is unique, enlightening, rewarding and enriching for everyone regardless of race, colour and creed. Our programmes have been specifically designed to produce a new breed of leaders, scholars, civil servants, private sector employees, economists and managers who are ready to face a challenging and competitive world in the future.

"Students are nurtured to produce a new pool of competent, capable, knowledgeable and ethical human capital to assist the government and the industry in enhancing the global competitiveness of Malaysia. RSOG will play a significant role in producing graduates who will be actively involved in nation-building, possess a sense of citizenship, understand the importance of solidarity and values, are sensitive to diverse cultures, and who strive to achieve the common good in this pluralistic society of ours. I am very enthusiastic about the future of RSOG and the vision and mission it aspires to."

In the course of developing its long-term programme, RSOG is focusing on the setting up of a resource centre that will culminate in a premier hub for governmental and public policy studies.

RSOG currently offers undergraduate courses in the field of public administration with emphasis on leadership, policy studies and economics. They are Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences, Bachelor of Arts (Government and Public Policy) (Hons), Bachelor of Arts (Leadership) (Hons), and Bachelor of Economics (Hons).
