Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said today that he did not ask to be born Malay

(Bernama) - PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said today that he did not ask to be born Malay.

The Kelantan Mentri Besar added that it was only by coincidence that he was born in this country.

Nik Aziz said that it did not matter what community he was born into as long as he was a Muslim.

He was responding to a statement by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that he should be grateful for being born Malay because this meant that he would be Muslim.

Nik Aziz said that all races were the same, and what made a person special was that he was a Muslim.

He said that he was striving for Islam as a religion of moderation and was opposed to extremism which contradicted Islam.

There are many billions of people throughout the world who consider themselves religious. Generally each of them adheres to a particular religious tradition, which is in many ways similar and also in many ways different from other religious traditions. Often, they consider that their tradition is the only valid tradition, and that others who are not participants in their tradition are lost souls condemned to be denied access to the kingdom of God. In this way, they fail to see the true universal nature of religion. Unfortunately this exclusivist mentality leads to increasing chaos and conflict in a world that is already too much overburdened by chaos and conflict. Religion is supposed to be God's gift to man so that he can have a heaven on earth and qualify to return to God's kingdom upon leaving his current body. So what is going wrong? And what can be done to change it?

What's going wrong is that we approach God to fulfill our desires instead of His desires. In other words we approach Him with our contaminated consciousness of subtly considering ourselves to be the Supreme. We place ourselves over Him by asking Him to serve us instead of us serving Him. This is selfishness, not selflessness. And this is what is going wrong in the hearts of practically everyone who approaches God. To change this we must teach that selfless service to Supreme Person is the only way that one can experience genuine complete happiness. If the hand wants to get nourishment, it must give the food to the belly. God is like the belly and we are like the hand. So we must give everything to God. In this way, we will be the best servants of God and all living beings including ourselves.

So, the universal religion is pure selfless service to the Supreme Person, the source of all existence. The language of the universal religion takes different shapes according to the different traditions. But when one goes deep enough into any one tradition, he will arrive at exactly the same conclusion as anyone else who follows his own religious tradition deeply enough. Therefore instead of getting side tracked by the differences of the religious traditions, we should immediately try to capture the pure essence of religion, the universal religion of pure, unadulterated, selfless, loving service for the Supreme Person.

The difficulty is that we currently have a drastic shortage of enlightened teachers on this planet who are fully tuned into the original, pure essence of religion, the universal religion of pure selfless devotion to God. An enlightened teacher is someone who has gone deep enough into his own tradition to find the one universal root of all traditions. He is a teacher who has fully realized the one universal or absolute truth underlying all relative truths. If planet earth had a sufficient abundance of such enlightened teachers in each tradition, there could be instituted a global educational system which would easily bring to this tattered global society a truly profound golden era of peace, prosperity, and happiness for all ...

"Kalau pada bangsa, tentu bapa saudara Nabi Muhammad SAW iaitu Abu Jahal (masuk syurga) tetapi Allah SWT telah menyatakan awal-awal lagi dia (bapa saudara Nabi) adalah ahli Neraka," katanya.

Take note of Tok Guru's real message: No race is superior. .

earthman,

I still think the Malays would be better off if they were not Muslim. They wouldn’t have so many negative habits as they have now, and who knows, they could be a superior race. See what temenggong has written. I feel and see the same. Islam is a wrong religion for anybody.

I think there are no such things as heaven and hell. Heaven and hell exist only in human imagination. ‘Heaven’ and ‘hell’ are just two words coined by some wise guy. If there were heaven and hell, they would be here on earth. If you are leading a happy and satisfied life, free from many of human difficulties, you are in heaven. Someone else may be suffering a good deal of misfortune in life, then that person is living in hell. Muslims believe strongly in heaven and hell, and now they themselves are exploiting it in a very dangerous way. Claiming that they could get 72 virgins in heaven gave rise to suicide bombers. This is a needless loss of lives not only of the suicide bomber but also those innocent victims. ..

Hello People..get one thing straight...To be a Muslim or even convert to be Muslim does not mean you have become Malay..!!!
If you cannot understand that race has nothing to do with religion then go crawl into a cave and live with the most ridiculous understanding one has of mankind, society and life...!
I am a convert Muslim and I am not Malay..I couldn't be for I was not born of Malay parentage...Furthermore I don't have to be a Malay to practise Islam and live my life with the spiritual and essence of Islam..

Ask this question if you choose the Roman Catholic faith would you be Roman or Italian??!!

Ask again if you choose to find peace in the Hindu faith does it mean you are Indian and therefore come from India??!!

What is the matter with Malaysiansthe Politicians and the Leaders of Faith? The Malays were Hindus and Buddiths even before being introduced to Islam not too many centuries ago..

It does not mean a race is privileged when they born to profess any faith..GOD had brought Faith to Man from the time of Adam and Eve and Mankind has failed him numerous times and today we have people thinking to declare themselves more privileged than the other for the person was of such different faiths when they were babies once, who many did not have a choice but carry on the same faith bestowed at birth...

The kind-hearted Nik Aziz is absolutely right for he speaks of how he feels special to be born Muslim. As he sees his religion to be special, one bestowed upon him at birth and where he found no need to stray from..And he is absolutely right when he said he did not ask to be born Malay..

Like I did not ask to be born of my race,I surely did not ask to be born in Malaysia making me Malaysian..With the crap that goes on in Malaysia,I rather be born in far away Amazon jungle or maybe in any Scandinavian Country..I would surely find peace and sense...!! ...

Not many people asked for Mahathir to be PM, and yet he was PM. ...

written by truthbespoken, February 28, 2011 10:24:02

But in Malaysia, born Indian Muslims can become Malay. And with Mahathir, after becoming Malay, he is even good enough to screw and tell off the Malays. What irony. Many Malays are so gullible to let this Indian-convert-to-Malay to still have free reign over them, allow him and his sons to loot the country and create trouble for all and sundry. Sad situation and very unfortunate for Malaysia indeed. ...

written by temenggong, February 28, 2011 09:47:45

Nobody asked to be born in any race or religion. It is a gift from God but people being wiser reject it and choose new and better religions. Among the mamaks, they even choose a new race.

Nik Aziz, do you have an RSS feed for 'islam' and 'muslim'? Do you see the conditions of the muslim world in turmoil? They are asking for democracy, freedom and human rights, with nary a word about islam and shariah. This is the first time muslims have arisen in revolution for secularism!

I think it is a curse to be born a muslim, and I feel sorry for Nik Aziz who is burdened to defend the indefensible. Feel free to disagree but do look around you tok janggut al kopiah, in your own backward and poor state with the highest divorce rates, the condition of muslim families and women everywhere, and muslim nations ruined and cursed. Nowhere else in the world do people of the same religion kill each other. Muslims' oppression and hatred for other muslims is unmatched! Why do you hate each other so much?

Now where exactly did they pick this up? ...

Indian convert to Islam becomes Malay and they get elected to be pee m of Malaysia

Javanese convert to Islam becomes Malay and they get to be menteri besar

He was responding to a statement by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that he should be grateful for being born Malay because this meant that he would be Muslim

So Tun Mahathir admits that he was sad not to be born as a Malay but a Mamak. By the way, does that mean only Malay can be Muslim? He talks cocks most of the time. ...

TGNA has again spoken what is true, none of us can choose to be born a Malay.

Yes, that ex-dictator, uncrowned king[may he be cursed and damned for generations] is right, in our country being born a Malays does bring certain privileges.

But the chains that come with that have caused many to be neglected by the UMNOputras who have used them as political pawns to enrich themselves, their families and cronies. ..

written by earthman, February 28, 2011 08:01:34

Yea aeiou, one can gain and profit to be a Malay and hence a Muslim here in Malaysia. ..

written by earthman, February 28, 2011 07:59:01

Before I start , I want all to know that I am not anti Muslims but skeptical of Islam. For all Muslims are my brothers and sisters. We are are human and belongs to the same family.

If its a privilege and a blessing to be a Malay or a Muslim , then why can't one opt to revoke these privilege or blessing? Unless all have to become a Muslim? Who can guarantee that a Muslim can go to heaven or have eternal life? Its faith and all claim their faith is true and correct. But bt the fruits of one's action , the tree is revealed.

By the way an Indian and a Vietnamese can call themselves a Malay. That is their rights but no than that. No special rights is deem lawful or correct in the eyes of justice and fairness. We are all human. Brothers and sisters. ...

It's better to be a Malay and not a Muslim.
