Najib Engages Social Networking Friends

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said he now has 560,000 Facebook friends and 80,000 Twitter friends.

The Prime Minister said he himself answered all questions posted by his social networking friends whenever he was free, especially when travelling from Putrajaya to Kuala Lumpur and at night.

"I have to keep abreast with modern communication in keeping with the changing world and Malaysians, who are adopting a new way of life in communicating with one another," he said.

He was speaking at the 1Malaysia Dialogue with Internet Friends reception attended by about 600 people aged between 16 and 72 at Seri Perdana here Sunday.

Besides taking questions from his social networking friends, Najib posted an announcement on the setting up of the 1Malaysia Youth Fund with a allocation of RM20 million for the benefits of youths.

The Prime Minister said he would give details on the fund next month and asked youths to make proposals on feasible projects.

Najib said he was willing to meet his social networking friends during state visits to hear their views, ideas and preferences.

"We can have a small meeting at the airport on my arrival or before my departure, or at the district council's meeting room. I will organise more meetings and sessions with my Internet friends in the near future," he said.

Najib also said thousands of Malaysians had signed up for the "Mari Berjumpa, Mari Berhubung" (Let's Meet, Let's Communicate) programme which he introduced recently.
