PM: Takeover claim biggest political lie of the century

SERIAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has gone on the offensive against Parti Keadilan Rakyat, lashing out at the party which he said had lost all credibility.

He said PKR had gone to the extent of telling the “biggest political lie of the century” when it announced it would take over the government on Sept 16, 2008.

“We have to keep repeating this because human memory is short and they forget, but we must remind the people that it was the biggest political lie of the century,” he said when addressing a huge crowd at a Sejiwa Senada programme for Samaharan Division here yesterday.

One for the album: Najib posing with 250 of his Facebook friends in Kuching yesterday. The Prime Minister visited the capital of Sarawak and various suburbs throughout the day.

He said PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had made the Barisan Nasional worried when he claimed that more than 30 of the coalition’s elected representatives would cross over. “But in the end, it was all a big fat lie,” he added.

He said there was no need for Anwar to come to Sarawak and spread more lies or “trade” promises just to get votes.

“If the party is good, then why are all its founding members pulling out? If the leader (Anwar) is idolised and considered the best, then why are the people who once chose him leaving him?

“PKR’s former deputy president Dr Chandra Muzaffar has said that if Anwar becomes prime minister, it would be an unmitigated disaster. His own deputy said that. These people know him best,” he said.

In addition, he said, many from the inner circle had deserted the de facto leader.

Other than former secretary-general Sallehuddin Hashim and Padang Serai MP N. Gobalakrishnan, he said even Anwar’s lawyer, Kulim-Bandar Baharu MP Zulkifli Noordin, did not believe Anwar anymore.

“You can read his blog. So many things have been said ... that if Anwar is in the right, then he should give a sample of his DNA to the court. Why is he scared? We are not scared to give our sample of DNA, no problem.

“I’m sure the Serian people would also want to know who Male Y is,” he said.

Najib said Anwar should just stop his political games and lies.

He was also unhappy the Opposition was making use of the rebellion in Egypt and Libya to stoke sentiments here.

“I want to tell the Opposition leaders not to underestimate Malaysians. The people know who they want in this country.

“We have a thriving and functional democracy and we make a choice through our elections, not rebellions and demonstrations. The election is the best barometer to gauge the people’s expectation of the government,” he said.

Muhyiddin: Don’t give ‘demons’ a ghost of a chance

SRI AMAN: Sarawakians should reject the “ghosts and demons” from the peninsula for the state election as they can destroy racial harmony, unity and stability, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.

“It is this stability that we need for the state, and in fact, the whole country to develop and progress further,” he said at a meet-the-people session at an Iban longhouse in Lingga, about 20km from here.

He said the “ghosts and demons” would do their best to trick the people into supporting the Opposition.

“Parti Keadilan Rakyat is now better known as Parti Kian Runtuh (party on the verge of collapse) with leaders and supporters leaving it daily.”

Muhyiddin said the Federal Government realised that Sarawak was a huge state which needed more development funds.

“That is why we are helping and spending a lot more. Please allow us to continue to help, especially in bringing more and better infrastructure, in social development and in providing education,” he said.

He announced allocations for SMK Lingga, RM18.5mil for the 15km Stumbin/Tanjung-Bijat/Sti¬rau Road, RM50mil to upgrade the Sembau-Stumbin Road, RM1mil for flood mitigation projects at five Malay villages and RM600,000 for several longhouses.

Muhyiddin also announced government development grants of RM580 for each of the 1,022 families from 51 longhouses in the area.

In ENGKILILI, Muhyiddin said the people should not be taken in by the Opposition’s promises.

“They cannot fulfil the promises they make in their ‘orange book’,” he said when visiting the Joshua Lipa Engkilili home in Lubok Antu here.

Muhyiddin announced allocations of RM1.7mil for residents of 172 longhouses in Engkilili and Batang Ai to repair their homes and RM2.57mil for projects to improve the infrastructure in the two areas.

He said that an additional RM2mil would be set aside to overcome the problem of flash floods in Engkilili and Batang Ai. – Bernama
