KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 — Umno’s relentless media attacks against PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu shows the Malay party’s desire to defend its version of history, analysts have said.
The nation is engulfed by history debates following the alleged remarks by the Kubang Kerian MP at a political gathering last month about the attack on Bukit Kepong in 1950 during British occupied Malaya.
Political analysts told The Malaysian Insider that Umno wanted to maintain its interpretation of history — which has been “propagated in schools and by the official media” — that it was the main force behind the nation’s fight for independence.
“Of course, the Umno at that time is totally different from the Umno of today, and independence came about through the efforts of various forces, including the Malayan Communist Party,” said Lim Teck Ghee, the director of policy reform organisation Centre for Policy Initiatives (CPI).
“However, the hope is that the Umno propagandist and self-serving version would be the unchallenged and pre-eminent interpretation of that period of our history,” he added.
Umno Youth said yesterday it would amass all former soldiers, policemen and kinsmen of the Bukit Kepong tragedy victims in a nationwide roadshow — called the Pentas Patriot or Patriot Stage — to counter Mohamad’s view of the fire-fight.
Mohamad, widely known as Mat Sabu, stirred controversy when he told a Bukit Gelugor ceramah that freedom fighters attacked the police station — which killed 25 — during the pre-independence communist insurgency.
The maverick politician has since been accused of being a communist sympathiser by Umno leaders and sniped at daily in Umno-owned newspaper Utusan Malaysia, despite denying that he had used the word “communism” in his speech.
Umno appears determined to use Mohamad’s statement to woo support from the Malay electorate, among whom communism remains a bogeyman, ahead of anticipated snap polls.
Mohamad, however, has pointed out that Muhammad Indera — one of the individuals he praised in his ceramah on August 21, was already recognised as a freedom fighter by Umno-controlled daily Berita Harian on August 13, 2010.

Firsthand experience on police brutality suffered by Mat Sabu and the Rakyats during the “Bersih 2.0” was not in vain.
Mat Sabu sure hits back at some very raw nerves, insinuating any party or individual that fought for justice against any tyrannical and oppressive governments are heroes. Those who serve a tyrannical and oppressive government blindly are nothing more but an oppressor themselves.
Bersih 2.0 seeks only justice but responses received were intimidation, arrest and brutality.
The cause and effect were laid bare, forcing those serving the armed forces to think deeper. Armed forces personals must stay neutral but obliged to report illegal activities, that itself is enough to send the UMNO government in to a frenzy.

ibabonma,
Please take note that the same stupid UMNO director also amassed substantial amount of tax-payers money for another film, "Pasir Salak". It is about the assassination of J W Birch by Maharalela. However, until this date nothing has come out the project.
Remember also, another very talented non-UMNO young film director, Namwe also requested from Finas for a film project about "One Malaysia" (Isn't this what PeeM Mat Mongol wants?)? He was kicked like a ball from one government department to another department. And that SOB, "change mode" Minister treated him like a dog! In the end, this very talented young man did not get any funds for his project from the government! If he is an UMNO member (or even a MCA member) they would have given him lots of money at the blink of an eye.
Coming back to stupid UMNO film director. Do you think he really do enough research before undertaking a film project? I don't think so. One thing for sure UMNO film directors are lazy to read. Well, you don't expect them to be James Cameron or Steven Spielberg but at least they should have read and do research for a film that has historical significance.
Viva Mat Indera! ..

ai yah, let all these UMNO Putera maggots do whatever they want to do. Mat Sabu has a point and in fact, he is telling the truth. No need to hide facts and play safe about Malays and Chinese and Communist, the Hangs and the Pahang Tok Janggut. I was all documented in the British history. Cant trust the UMNO-made sejarah at all. These maggots are trying to swap the public attention on the indirect killing of Bernama cameraman from the 1-Malaysia Putera stupid show-off publicity in somalia. ...

The problem with most Malays, Umno members in particular, when ever they mention Bukit Kepong their minds marvel at the Malay film titled ‘Bukit Kepong’ produced by that stupid Umno goon film director, the satanic Jin Shamsuddin.
The theme of the film was simply to highlight “Chinese communists attacking the police station defended by the Malay policemen.”, FULL STOP!
Few realise that the attackers who attacked the British colonialist police station of Bukit Kepong were Malaya Merdeka freedom fighters led by a Malay hero, Muhammad Indera.
